Montenegrin Mountain Hound

BRIEF HISTORY: It is safe to say that this dog is from the same area as the other Balkan Hounds. In the past, this dog was sometimes called the “black hound”. The first standard dates back to 1924. The FCI officially recognized this breed (standard no. 279) on May 8, 1969 at a meeting in Warsaw.

The Kennel Association of Montenegro is a modern organization with over 800 members distributed in 10 kennel societies and 23 breed societies for individual breeds. More than 3,000 puppies are registered in the pedigree book every year.
